29 Aug 10 (Sun) - Okonomiyaki

Cooked Okonomiyaki coz still has flour left. However, I bought Korean Mayonnaise instead of Japanese so the texture was thicker. Hence, I decided to use it to draw a face on the pancake instead.

28 Aug 10 (Sat) - Stir-fried Cabbage with Oyster Mushrooms and Prawns

Developed a taste for cabbage recently and so for the past couple of weekends, I have been eating cabbage dishes and mainly soup-based. Today decided to try something different – Stir-fried Cabbage with Oyster Mushrooms and Prawns. End product wasn’t so bad though I guess I could do with more mushrooms and prawns or I should replace with dried shrimps instead.

22 Aug 10 (Sun) - Pan-fried Salmon Steak with Homemade Teriyaki Sauce

Today is the last chance to finish up the Teriyaki sauce from few weeks ago. So bought three pieces of salmon steaks to make Pan-fried Salmon Steak with Homemade Teriyaki Sauce. This time round, I marinated the steaks with the sauce for 60 min before cooking and turned out that they taste better and the sauce sticks better.

14 Aug 10 (Sat) - Caipo with Minced Meat & Hei Bee Hiam

Cooked Caipo with Minced Meat in Soy Sauce and Hei Bee Hiam. Both were dishes that my mum used to make. The first is my favorite food and I can eat a lot of rice just with that dish alone. It’s not a dish that many would appreciate. Most would associate Caipo with eggs but guess my mum got creative and came up with this version. Cooked this dish a few times before but Hei Bee Hiam was my first attempt and I didn’t ask mum to teach me before. So had to try cooking through memory. It didn’t turn out too far from her versions though still not up to her standard.

9 Aug 10 (Mon – National Day) - Tteokbokki

Cooked Tteokbokki today coz I still have half a box of the chili paste left and also because I had promised NLK that I would bring some for her to sample. This time round, I used the local dried rice cake instead of the fresh ones and it didn’t turn out as good as the first round. Wonder if it was due to the rice cake or I had put in too much cabbage. Messaged M to take some and she came down with a container. Told her that it didn’t taste as good and she agreed.

We went Bugis Junction over the last Saturday and she showed me the Tteokbokki stall that she frequent. There were two stalls selling Tteokbokki amongst other Korean street food. So we bought a box from each stall to compare. It turns out that the one she frequents tasted closer to the one I had during the Food Festival. Sweeter with thicker sauce while the other stall had adjusted the taste so that its more localize towards the savory side.

8 Aug 10 (Sun) - Curry Chicken

Cooked Curry Chicken today using the Prima Taste Singapore Curry Sauce Kit and Kara Coconut Cream. Seen my sis cooks this couple of times and so decided to try it out myself. Told M about it during out outing the day before and said I would message her if it was successful. Started preparing the cooking and was done about 10+am. Messaged her and there was no reply. So decided to wait thinking she might still be in bed. Finally she replied and came down with a big container. She told me that she went to Safra with her dad to play pool and she forgot her phone. She had a stuffy nose and she said she probably caught a cold there. Then she told me it was going to be chicken day coz her dad had forgotten that I would be cooking Curry Chicken today and went to get chicken rice instead. So instructed M that if they couldn't finish the food, don’t keep coz of the coconut milk in the dish. Chased her back home shortly coz she wasn’t feeling well.

1 Aug 10 (Sun) - Gungjung Tteokbokki

Cooked Gungjung Tteokbokki (Royal Rice Cake) today, a recipe that I found on the Internet. Message my niece to come down to get some and she ended up eating those she had packed as her lunch before going out to meet her classmates for project discussion. We chatted as she ate and she commented that it tasted good. When she was just about to finish the food, she said she feels very full. Told her she shouldn't have tried to finish everything if she couldn't. No doubt it felt good to have someone to appreciate your cooking and eat up the food. I would rather that she stopped when she felt full coz I know how terrible it feels to suffer from indigestion. Anyway, personally I prefer the spicy Tteokbokki then this and I guess same goes for M.
